We use ore and process materials such as consumables and reagents to extract copper and gold, and to produce gold dore.
Our operations require fuels, explosives, cyanide, nitric acid, sodium hydroxide, lime and grinding media. We have processes in place to manage all consumables and we actively seek to use best practice in transportation, storage and safe disposal.
The International Cyanide Code
The International Cyanide Code guides best practice for transporting and using cyanide. Although voluntary, the Code has wide support among the major gold producers, who register with the International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI).
Three of ABG’s four sites are currently certified under the Code and are subjected to regular independent audits. Bulyanhulu and Tulawaka have cyanide detoxification plants and North Mara is following suit. The Buzwagi plant is being upgraded to reduce cyanide levels in discharge with the aim of applying for Code certification.
