The project
The Dett prospect lies in the western part of the Mara-Musoma Greenstone Belt and is located approximately 45 kilometres west of North Mara gold mine. Any target in this area would be for a stand-alone operation. Historic surface mapping and sampling outlined an extensive (4km x 2km) zone of alteration associated with intercalated intrusions and sediments. Shallow reconnaissance drilling within the mapped alteration zone delineated two large areas of gold anomalism (>0.3g/t Au), and limited deeper drilling to ~200 metres vertical delineated a low-grade (~0.70g/t) gold mineralised system open in all directions including at depth, associated with copper, molybdenum and tungsten anomalism.
The opportunity
In 2011, the Exploration team reviewed the historical data across the Dett prospect and drilled three wide-spaced diamond holes to test the potential for higher gold grade structures, and to examine the potential for mineralisation to extend further at depth. These holes were drilled to approximately 300 vertical metres, and all holes showed the gold system remained open at depth, while also intersecting several zones of higher grade (>1g/t Au) mineralisation. The drilling to date has confirmed ABG’s interpretation of the structural controls to mineralisation and further review of the 2011 results will be undertaken in planning for future drill programmes aimed at further validating and extending the higher grade gold zones and investigating the potential of delineating a large, in excess of 1.0 – 1.5g/t Au, mineable resource.
Forward activity
We expect to intially drill around 20 holes for approximately 7,000 metres of RC and diamond core during 2012 to follow-up the 2011 results and look to identify new gold zones.
