Gokona Corridor

The project

The Gokona Corridor is a particular area of focus in our exploration around the underground targets at North Mara. It extends approximately 6 km north west of the Gokona deposit and approximately 10 km southeast of the Nyabigena deposit.

The opportunity

Historically, very little effective drilling has been completed outside the immediate mine area. During 2010/2011 we have completed reverse circulation (RC) scout drilling programmes along this prospective corridor to test for additional gold deposits. Initial results are encouraging with several holes intersecting anomalous gold zones (> 100ppb Au) associated with favourable rock-types, along with zones of alteration and veining similiar to those observed at the Gokona and Nyabigena deposits.

Forward activity

In order to build on this progress and further assess the corridor’s potential we are continuing the scout drilling programme, while at the same time we are planning infill RC and diamond core drilling around anomalous gold zones to determine the potential for economic mineralisation. In 2012, the scout RC drilling will consist of around 140 holes for approximately 15,000 metres, and the infill drilling is planned to consist of 25-30 holes for approximately 5,000 metres.
