The project
The Kahama project lies approximately 50 km west of Resolute’s Golden Pride gold operations and 30 km south east of Barrick’s Buzwagi gold operations.
It covers an area of around 356 km2, comprising the Kahama Joint Venture (ABG 51% and Resolute 49%) and the Kahama Project (ABG 100%). ABG does not manage the Kahama JV project.
The opportunity
The project area lies within the southern extension of the Kahama greenstone belt and within 5-15 km of the Buzwagi operation. The opportunity is to identify new resources that are economically viable to truck a relatively short distance to Buzwagi.
Targets on the properties appear to be associated with shear structures cutting through banded iron stones and felsic volcanics.
We have carried out geological mapping, prospecting of historical and artisanal workings, geochemical surveys (soil, auger and rock chip sampling), geophysical surveys (magnetic, EM and IP) as well as RAB, AC, RC and diamond drilling.
This has led to the identification of a number of prospects including:
- Mwanzwilo
- Malunde
- Igusulu 1 and Igusulu 2
- Bumbiti Reefs.
Forward activity
We plan to complete reconnaissance Aircore (AC) drilling across the interpreted key structural trends in the area and to target the trends of historical artisanal workings with RC drilling. This work is planned for Q3-Q4 2011.
